Klingon Rituals |
The Klingon culture is steeped in honorable traditions. Consequently, they have a variety of very ancient and closely-followed rituals.
The Klingon Death Scream - W- When a Klingon warrior dies in battle, it is said his spirit ascends to the place where all honorable warriors go. The left over body is only a worthless shell to be disposed of. When the moment of death arrives, the slain warrior's comrades throw back their heads and scream loudly towards the heavens. This is supposed to announce the arrival of a true warrior to the gods.
R'uustai - This is a ceremony of bonding. It is done whenever people lose their family and become orphans. In this festival, a Klingon welcomes the orphan as part of his family.
Hegh'bat - A grievous injury is one of the worst things that can happen to a Klingon because it breaks the Klingon code of honor, which requires members of the race to be able to fight. In the Hegh'bat ceremony a close relative brings the injured Klingon a ritual knife so the warrior can stab himself in the chest. The relative completes the ritual by removing the knife from the dead warrior's chest and wiping the blood off on his sleeve.
Mauk-to'Vor - When a warrior loses everything -- family, political status, and honor -- the Mauk-to'Vor ceremony is the only place he can turn. In this death ritual a family member redeems the destitute warrior's lost honor by killing him.
Klingon Recreational Activities - What do Klingon warriors do to loosen up when not in battle? Somewhat surprisingly, socializing with the sworn enemy is not uncommon. Enemies are only considered to be adversaries in battle, off the battlefield opponents sometimes sit together in a tavern and enjoy each other's company.
A favorite drinking game is the Warrior's Head Butt. Two warriors grab each others' arms, and slam their heads together violently -- the one left standing is declared the winner.
